After a long, dark and cold winter the Swedes look forward to the summer and the long
days and short nights. The Midsummers Eve holiday is one of the biggest and most
typically Swedish celebrations in this country.
All over the land maypoles are raised, decorated with flowers, greenery and garlands. And
Swedes can often be seen forming circles around the poles, dancing traditional ringdances.
Swedish Midsummers Eve celebrations are also associated with folk music, performed on
violins and key fiddles, by musicians dressed in traditional costumes that date back hundred
of years. Many Swedes also begin their summer holidays around the Midsummer weekend.
Many dream of owning an idyllic red cottage by a tranquil lake, or on an island in one of
the many archipelagos. Swedes don’t just like living by water, they adore being on it too...
Only 9 million people live in Sweden, but there are around l million boats registered,
ranging from tiny rowing boats to luxurios cruisers.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, thy King cometh unto thee; He is the righteous Saviour, and He shall speak peace unto the heathen.
