No walls.
No borders.
No limits.

Broadcast Coverage and Languages

Berhanu couldn't believe his ears. A radio program in Oromo, his native language, was so rare. Yet there it was in his remote area of northern Ethiopia, from a station called Adventist World Radio.

Despite warnings and threats from the local priests, Berhanu and his
family continued listening to AWR. Feeling lonely and isolated, Berhanu
decided to travel to Addis Ababa, the capital city, to see the station for
himself.
Getting there was not easy, as it required a six-hour walk followed
by a twelve-hour bus ride. After arriving in the massive city, Berhanu
did not have a clue where to find AWR. Miraculously,
a stranger offered to guide him to the station.
Berhanu couldn't believe his eyes, and kept
asking, "ls this really the station? Are you the
real people who speak about God?”
Berhanu was referred to the Central Ethiopian
Field the same day, and follow-up work is being
done with him right now. This is AWR's mission:
to broadcast the Adventist hope in Christ to the
hardest-to-reach people groups of the world in
their own languages.

Adventist World Radio is the mission radio arm of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church, using shortwave. AM/
FM, satellite, and Internet broadcasts to reach people
who are difficult to connect with by conventional
outreach methods. Shortwave signals can travel
for thousands of miles, enabling programs to be
transmitted from far away and reach into areas that
are closed to religious broadcasts in local media. in
areas with more freedom, AWR uses AM/FM radio to
broadcast to local communities. Satellites are used
to deliver programs to radio networks or directly to
homes, while Internet broadcasts can be accessed from
anywhere in the world.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, thy King cometh unto thee; He is the righteous Saviour, and He shall speak peace unto the heathen.
