THE WORLD IS TUNING IN TO PEACE
RFPI began broadcasting in September 1987 with a single transmitter. Today RFPI beams its signal around the world utilizing five transmitters. Thousands of letters have been received from listeners in more than 100 countries.
RFPI's studios and transmitters are located on the campus of the University for Peace (created by the United Nations) in Costa Rica. RFPI is a joint project of the University of Global Education (formerly World Peace University) / Earth Communications with offices in Oregon, USA and the University for Peace.
Shortwave signals can be heard worldwide. They are not stopped by political or geographic boundaries. RFPI on shortwave provides the most cost effective and accessible medium of alternative global news and views.

DIVERSE PROGRAMMING
RFPI broadcasts information not readily available in other media on all aspects of planetary peace. It provides a voice for the geographically and culturally diverse community concerned with global interdependence, those striving to create a peaceful and just world. RFPI provides in-depth analysis and challenges prevailing concepts. Its goal is to foster global solutions to the challenges of our time.
RFPI receives a wide variety of programs from over 40 individuals and organizations. Programs on RFPI cover a diverse range of topics, including conflict resolution, multi-cultural democracy, environmental issues, world hunger, social justice, human rights, cross-cultural understanding, and North-South dialogue.

Some examples are:

PROGRAMS PRODUCED BY RFPI
In addition to the programs broadcast on RFPI which are produced elsewhere, many diverse programs are produced by RFPI. These include RFPI's Mailbag, RFPI Reports, and the Far Right Radio Review, among others.

RFPI Reports
Utilizing telephone and studio interviews, as well as electronic information-gathering services, RFPI Reports focuses on human rights, social justice, and environmental concerns in Latin America and the Caribbean. Topics have included: the efiects of governmental “structural adjustment programs” on the poor in Central America, the peace process in El Salvador, and the negative environmental effects of banana production in Costa Rica.

The Far Right Radio Review
The Far Right Radio Review looks at the growing phenomenon of racist / hate programming on shortwave and beyond.
Organized racist movements, involving groups like the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi Party, and the National Alliance, and their links to radio producers, are discussed. False racial interpretations of current events are analyzed and countered.

FIRE — Feminist International
