RFA Radio Free Asia
Created and funded by the U.S.Congress, Radio Free Asia (RFA) began in March 1996. As a surrogate network, RFA provides accurate and timely information, news and commentary about events in Asia. It is a forum for a variety of opinions and voices from within Asian nations whose people do not fully enjoy freedom of expression.
RFA broadcast only in local language and dialects - in Mandarin, Cantonese, Uyghur, and the Wu dialect; Tibetan(Uke, Amdo, and Kham); Burmese; Khmer to Cambodia; Korean to North Korea; Lao; and Vietnamese. Each language service is made up of native language speakers. This distinctive programming reflects each of these unique cultures.
RFA gives its Asian listeners a vehicle to voice their own thoughts twelve call-in programs-one in Cantonese, one in Khmer, five in Mandarin, four in Tibetan and one in Uyghur. Daily broadcasts incorporate reports from correspondents and stringers throughout the world.
RFA has offices across Asia and is headquartered in Washington, DC.
