Psalm 23

A PSALM OF DAVID

The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will tear no evil;
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies;
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
for ever.

This is a Psalm for young men and women. Is there
anything better tor young people than to say: "The
Lord is my shepherd"? But this is also a Psalm for
older ones, specially for those who are near death:
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death... Thou art with me!"

The Book
for the World .

Written by 40 men,
translated by hundreds,
printed by thousands,
read by millions of people.

When Luther published his German Bible in 1534,there
were about l5 translations in circulation. In the year
1600 there were 40 and in 1700 only fifty-two
different versions. Following that period, many
missionary societies were formed in Europe. The
missionaries who proclaimed the Gospel in all the
world were of course desirous to have Bibles in
their respective native languages. Consequently, a
large number of linguists started the difficult task of
translation.
In 1661, the Bible was published in one of the North
American Indian languages.
Later, there was the Ethiopian Bible, then the Tamil
Bible for India. Eskimos in Greenland got their own
Bible in 1744.

One translator may complete his work in three years,
another works all his life, because the language is
so difficult.

Nobody in this world knows even the names of all
the languages into which the Bible has been translated,
e. g. Persian, Chinese, Sanskrit, Hindi, Nsenga,
Mpoto, Omyene, Bruy-bhasa, Poneri—houen etc.

In the year 1800 there were 75 translations; in 1900
there were already 567; in 1953 there was a total
of l,l67, and now they amount to over 2000.

WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO SPEAK?

"Thus saith the Lord". In no book of this world are
these words found but in the Bible, where they occur
hundreds of times. Only, in the short book of the
Prophet Malachi, we read this saying 24 times,
including 22 times:" ...saith' the Lord of hosts."

The Bible asserts therefore: Here God is speaking.
It this were not true, the Bible would be the book
containing the most bare-faced lies. Now, one has
to make the decision: Either the Bible is 100 per cent
true and God-given or it is the worst and most
ungodly book in all the world.

Did you
ever eat
Rat Poison?

We all know that rat poison is dangerous. "But you
have to eat it in order to know how it works." Anyone,
who talks like that is as unwise as one who
reads bad books in order to know what is bad.

Good Advice: Don't! Eat Rat Poison!

Don't let interior literature into your house, but read
only good books!
Read books of men who have achieved a great goal,
men and women who were heroes of faith. Read also
what these people say about the Bible. But watch
that even such good books do not take the place of
THE BOOK; tor the Bible must have the first place.

21 Love Letter

On her birthday a princess received a round packag
from her fiancé.
She opened it and found . . . a cannon ball. She was
disappointed, got angry and threw the black ball into
a corner of the room. But what happened? The outer
shell burst and a silver ball emerged. She picked it
up immediately, and as she turned it in her hand:
and pressed it, . . . a golden case came out of the
silver ball. Now, as she opened it, she found a precious
ring with glittering diamonds lying on black velvet.
A small letter was also enclosed, reading: Because I love you!

This is the way many people think: We don't like the
Bible, many things that are written sound peculiar
and are hard to understand. But those who really
want to study and search will discover new beauties:
and finally they will unmistakably understand the
divine message of the Bible:

BECAUSE l LOVE YOU!

The best Proof
Close to a bridge, a woman sat behind her
fruit stand. When there were no sustemers
she read from her Bible, the book which
she treasured so much. What kind of book
are you reading all the time?" one customer
asked. “Oh, Sir, this is the Bible, the Word
of God“, she replied. “Well, how do you
know that this is the Ward of God? Who
told you?"
"He Himself!"
"Did God talk to you personally?"

At first the woman was
somewhat embarrassed
when she was asked to
explain why the Bible
was God's Word. But
then she looked up into
the sky and pointed to
the sun and said: "Sir,
can you prove to me
that that is the sun?"
"To prove to you that
that is the sun", he
replied, "is quite simple.
The best proof is that
it gives light and
warmth to me",
"True, that's it", the woman said. "The proof that the Bible is truly
God's Word is that it gives me inward light and warmth".

No Contradictions
in the Bible

No conclusions of science, nor archaeology, physics,
nor geology, nor astronomy are in contradiction to
the Bible.
Could it be otherwise?
Should the One who created the universe and
formed all wisdom contradict Himself?

The Bible is perfect.
Pure gold is not gilded and rubies are not painted.
Thus, there is nothing in the Bible which needs to be
improved upon. You don‘t have to light a lamp in
order to see the sun. There is also no need for the
sun to prove itself to be the sun.
Thus it is with the Bible. It bears the stamp of God.
